^^ yes, i use layers
usually one for skin, one for hair, one for clothes, etc...
and i sometimes use some photo references at the beginning stages, or for the whole thing if i'm trying to do a specific person
i like your yui painting btw :)

The pictures in your gallery have a really interesting look to them - I wanna say some of them are photo manips but Im not sure just from looking ... I wonder what kinda porcess you go through for making most of these ?

Also, I really liked the one called "Dead Air" - it looks like you totally spammed a few of the pre-set Photoshop brushed, but the color blends so well I couldnt tell until I paid really close attention.

this is how i do it.. using photoshop.. i put a new layer over the photo. and trace the images thats all.. and when ur finished it would look like a life like art or painting. its actually cheating.. hehe

lol - Cheating is for blackjack - layer tricks are for the photoshop enlightened.

I'll be sure to try that sometime with a photo - also, the "Some More Dabs" pic - I see that looking quite fearsome if you actually went back to make wings for it.
